We offer complimentary stone sharpening on all Acre knives for the life of the blade. If you follow our care instructions, you’ll have many years of enjoyable use of your knife; but accidents happen, and we’re here to help if they do. A drop, or an unexpected encounter with a bone, hard surface or abrasive material can compromise the appearance or structural integrity of your blade.

FEE STRUCTURE

-Stone sharpening is complimentary for all Acre knives for the life of the blade. In the event you can’t drop off and pick up at the Forge in Portland; we ask that you cover the cost of shipping the knife to us and back to you with insurance. We cannot be responsible for loss of or damage to a knife in transit.

-We’d be happy to sharpen knives from other producers. The fee to stone sharpen a non-Acre knife is $25 per blade + shipping.

-After inspection upon arrival, if we believe your knife would benefit from additional services to repair damage or restore it from wear and tear, you’ll be contacted and quoted a cost for suggested remediation before we move forward with any elective restorations.

TURN AROUND TIME

-To minimize time away from a beloved blade, we aim to provide same day service for local customers, and sharpen knives shipped by mail within one business day. Additional services may require additional time in the shop; but no more than three business days per blade.

-For local customers and visitors, an appointment is required for your service so we can be prepared for your arrival at the Forge. Please let us know if you’d like to watch us sharpen your knife to learn more about the process. Also, let us know if you’d like to peruse the shop or to take a tour during your appointment. We will do our best to accommodate you.

Good Faith Pledge

When you send us your knife for sharpening, we pledge to have one of our bladesmiths provide you with our best judgment in case refurbishments are recommended. Any perceptible cosmetic changes resulting from the service will be discussed in advance before proceeding with sharpening or refurbishments. If you elect to accept the service, we require a good-faith agreement that you fully authorize and accept all proposed and agreed upon refinements of the knife without recourse of any kind.

Care Process

1

Get In Touch

Fill out the form below to make an appointment for drop off, planning to allocate 20 minutes per knife if same day service is available, or to arrange a shipment. Within one business day, we’ll acknowledge receipt of your request, respond with follow-up questions if needed and provide directions for shipping or available appointment windows for service.

2

Pack It Up

Carefully wrap your blade in butcher paper, bubble wrap, folded cardboard or an old towel paying special attention to the tip if you don’t have a saya or blade protector to transport it in. Secure the blade wrapping with tape or rubber bands, then pack the knife in a sturdy cardboard box with plenty of padding to ensure its integrity during transit if you’re shipping it to us.

3

Mail It Out

Ship your knife to us via your preferred carrier. We recommend insuring the package and requesting a tracking number from your carrier to share with us along with the expected arrival date and time. Please note we cannot be held responsible for loss of or damage to a knife in transit to or from the Forge.

4

Blade Examination

Upon arrival, we’ll confirm receipt of your knife and present it to one of our bladesmiths for inspection. We’ll contact you if any restoration is recommended to discuss the cosmetic implications and associated costs. If no refurbishment is needed, we’ll stone sharpen as requested and condition it with camellia oil.

5

Return Shipment

Once we’ve finished servicing your knife, we’ll package it up carefully in a new box and provide you with return tracking information via USPS or your preferred carrier once you’ve paid for shipping, insurance and any elective refurbishments beyond sharpening.
